Also a good read...5 stars...cant stay long, have another Coben novel to get to. Happy Reading!
A bit too long and drawn out, very repetitive in places. The ending was a bit surprising, and not too satisfactory.
This is the first book from this author that I have read . I really liked it from the 1st chapter and I had to keep reading after each chapter ended. The end was okay not too satisfying but maybe that wasn't the intention . Still would recommend , its a great page turner where time will just fly by when reading .
I can't say I've ever been disappointed in a Harlan Coben novel, but I wasn't a fan of this one really.....difference maybe being I didn't read it, I listened to the audio book (although the reader was good)....I just felt so frustrated throughout and then Adam suddenly had an epiphany which I found abrupt. Twisty, I guess (like all Harlan Coben books), but not my favourite for sure....
When Adam is approached by a stranger in a bar who tells him a devastating secret about his wife, he is mostly incredulous but suspicious. When he finds out the secret is true, his perfect wife leaves suddenly for “a few days” and we spend most of the book wondering where she is. Adam can’t really go to the police, as her most recent text says she needs some space for a brief time – so it looks like a voluntary separation. Meanwhile, a couple of other people learn dark secrets about their family life from the same stranger – and now we’re really hooked into how is he learning this stuff and what is he up to? Before it’s over, things do start to tie together; and when a lady cop from out of town befriends Adam, and helps try to find his wife, things finally resolve – but not in a way Hollywood might have done it. Throughout, the pages turn rapidly; and when we start taking the book with us everywhere, that means it’s a real pleaser.
A pretty good thriller-mystery, until the end. The big reveal was not as satisfying as its lead up. The ending wasn't bad, but there were not enough subtle hints at who the primary antagonist actually was. There was a lot of info on where the story leads you, but little scraps as far as who was really behind it all.
Not bad, but not great either.
Enjoyed it, but a few things bugged me about it. The ending was a surprise but not enjoyable.
I agree with most of the comments it was good...a few twists...I enjoyed the ending..I didn't see that coming..
One feels that the author is a smart guy. But this book it's not a literary work, more like a script for a movie, continuous dialogues... And his enthusiasm for sports, in particular, lacrosse, frankly - annoying. Also, the impression that if not for mobile phones, a crime would not be solved.
This was not one of his better books. Characterd could have been developed better. Too many simplistic discoveries. Weak ending.
Ok book. Too many characters that are not fully developed. Coben has some much better stuff than this.
This isn't one of Coben's better works. Adam's world is upside-down trying to find his wife - either a run-away fugitive or dead.
Very disappointing. The ending was a terrible display of amoral values in an individual and an entire community.
Amazing read - I couldn't put it down... I kind of had an idea what might be happening, but Coben puts enough twists and turns to still keep you guessing.
I like Coben's writing but I don't think this was one of his best books. The plot was okay but at times it seemed to drag
another great work. pretty good indeed, kept me reading and every chapter was a little cliffhanger. the end, man. not a fan of the end but i surely didnt ruin the book. i didnt see it coming at all. reading MISSING YOU now, cant believe i didnt get it earlier! check it out, its great, too.
I read this book by listening on Audible. The narrator was great -- highly recommended.
The Stranger shows up and tells you a secret about a loved one. You don't know what to believe -- should you believe this stranger, this person you don't know? Or do you believe your loved one, trust they told the truth? The Stranger has upturned an innumerable amount of lives, all for the sake of putting the truth out there.
Adam Price is visited by The Stranger. He tells Adam a secret about his wife, Corinne, that turns his life upside down. Then, when confronted, Corinne suddenly disappears, no where to be found. Adam must find The Stranger and find out what truly happened, and he has to find Corinne to put their life back together. Little does he know, many other people have been approached by The Stranger, and not all of them are happy to have their lives disrupted.
"The Stranger," while at times tedious and overly detailed, delivers on the suspense and mystery that this premise promises. Adam Price is a severely unlikeable character, anti-social and stand-offish. He makes some questionable decisions regarding his wife, children, and The Stranger. However, if you can get past some of the obvious character flaws and little plot holes, this book will keep you turning back, wondering how you could think what you thought would happen before. The ending had me putting off dinner, telling my family to leave me alone until I finish this book, I have to find out what happens -- the sign of a great thriller.
good book. Most of Harlan's books are 3 stars for me. Had a few twists and that it was what I like about this author.
This is one of the worst books I have read recently. The plot is ridiculous and the characters are poorly developed. The book has a good deal of useless filler in it. Quite disappointing.
This is another interesting thriller from the author. Its about the reaction of a man who is told a secret about his wife and what he does to learn the truth.
At first this book reminded me of Gillan Fylnn's "Gone Girl" - missing wife and hubby suspected of wrongdoing. Then I couldn't believe a wife of 18 years faking a pregnancy. I found his introduction of other character's situations disruptive. I hated the filler sentences. I hated the very colloquial language. But I kept reading. I should have read the first 20 pages and the last 10 to find out the "why" and "what happened". A very disappointing time spent with this book.
Definitely not up to par with his other thrillers. The conclusion had me rolling my eyes. At least it's a fast read. In a word, this book is disappointing.
I am a huge Harlan Coben fan but this book was just not up to his usual standards. Very disappointing.
