I'm in love with this book series. What's better than talking animals, adventure, humor, bravery and family! Brian Jacques is a amazing writer. Eulaliaaaa!! Redwalllll!!

Brian Jacques' series was popular in high school, but I did not read it at that time, so I decided to include it in my 2017 Reading Challenge under the category, "book about an animal." Redwall is a very stereotypical adventure story. The protagonist is male and an orphan, has no faults, saves the day, and gets the girl.

The book that started it all! We love this tale of adventure, bravery, and honor. Who knew woodland creatures led such dramatic lives?

First of all, I love this whole series. That said, I find Redwall (the first book) somewhat lacking in the charm that characterizes the other books of the series. It's also fairly violent, more so then some of the other books. Personally, I would recommend starting with Mossflower, which is my favorite book of the series. The whole series is filled with adventure, but the loyalty, honesty, and friendship of the characters stands out even more. The good characters are good. The evil characters can be *quite* evil, though, so I wouldn't recommend these for young children. Still, the amazing adventures, moral characters, and wonderful writing make this series absolutely unforgettable. Eulaliaaa!

This is definitely one of my favorite books of all time. While I enjoy the whole series, there's something special about this one, and honestly, part of it is because the world wasn't fully developed yet, and so the book was written somewhat differently than any of the later entries in the series were. I highly recommend this exciting and highly enjoyable work of art full of unlikely heroes, despicable villains, intense battles, memorable songs and poems (more in later books than in this one), and absolutely delicious-sounding food (read the introduction to The Redwall Cookbook to see why food gets such a major role in this series). Some younger readers might be put off by the very evil antagonists, who can be quite frightening and in this book specifically occasionally need their mouths washed out. All in all, I consider this book to be a masterwork that also makes an excellent read-aloud. Redwaaaaaaalllll!!!

I'm in love with this book. I read it ages ago when I was in grade school sometime. I wanted to reminisce so I decided to give the series another go as an adult and I wasn't disappointed. I have a love for Matthias and the rest of the Redwall gang as they deal with antagonists like Cluny and Asmodeus. It's a great book that you'll enjoy whether your young or old. If you like fantasy novels, this is definitely for you!
