Woodson's storytelling is so vivid, I can hear the characters speaking right off the pages of this book. In real life I personally can't stand the type of gossipy/two-faced tone Grandma takes, but it's certainly a realistic characterization of many family reunion attendees, and quite funny the way Woodson presents it. I think kids up to third grade or so will get a kick out of this charming picture book.
