The central character in Volver is a family of women: mother and grandmother Irene, her daughters Raimunda and Sole, and Raimunda's 14-year-old daughter Paula. Irene is dead: She died with the girls' father in a fire many years ago in their birth village in La Mancha. Raimunda lives in Madrid with Paula and her shiftless husband, who is malevolent, irrelevant, or absent. Separated Sole runs an unlicensed beauty parlor in her apartment. Their old aunt, Paula, still lives in the village and speaks about her sister Irene as if she were still alive. When the aunt dies, some things change, many things return, and Raimunda's troubles become extremely complicated. She bustles through them with passionate determination, a hard-working woman pulled in fifty directions, making a life for her family, reveling in every emotion but self-pity.

Add a CommentI love this movie, Penelope is mesmerizing, the colors captivating and the music... (Pen doesn't actually sing, she lip syncs "Volver" voiced by Estrella Morente.) GORGEOUS FILM.
A very sweet, funny and quirky film.
If you are into subtitle movies your will enjoy this one.
luv,murder n lukin fierde we'll doin it.....
Saw it before, still very entertaining. Almodovar has a hand for great movies. It has everything, its funny, its serious, there is a muder, etc.
Once again Penelope Cruz shines. Volver is a brilliant film, one you can watch over and over again. I don't know how Almodovar does it, but he has created once again an amazing film.
Penelope and Almodovar prove to be another genius pairing. Pen is absolutely amazing in this one. Her talent- limitless.
Has Penelope Cruz ever been better? Playing a Spanish mother, she comes to terms with life after the murder of her husband, who attempted to molest their daughter.
Awesome movie... Penelope Cruz is really in her element, I especially enjoyed seeing her in a spanish speaking role.
Loved Penelope in this one!
