Always a fan of expanding the world of Tortall. We were introduced to Alanna's only daughter Ali who is similar to her father and his spy-like ways. When she is captured and sold as a slave, she gets an offer from a god she can't refuse.

I liked Ali. She was the best part of this book for me. I am also shipping her hard core with Numir. I feel like Ali was the main reason I finished because while I liked Ali, I missed the rest of the characters. We got brief glimpses of them but not enough to satisfy me. Instead we were thrust into the whole other world, with new politics and rulers and magic which wasn't as interesting to me. It was good, just not what I was expecting. I will finish this duology but I can take a bit of a break.

Love the audio book version of it – well read, great story, excellent punky characters! Alianne has such mischievous competence. She takes her capture in stride and turns the situation into one that interests her. I think I’ve listened to this twice now, and I’m still totally enthralled.
