Ruth Reichl’s memoir about her time as the food critic of the New York Times in the mid-90s is smart, funny, and full of gorgeous descriptions of delicious food. I particularly recommend the audiobook; the performer is fantastic. Bon appetit!

I liked the way she wrote about her different disguises and how she picked them out. Interesting how her personality changed with each character. It wasn't as interesting as her book Delicious so a disappointment.

Ruth Reichl, the last editor of the now defunct Gourmet magazine, shares stories from her days as the restaurant critic at the New York Times in the 1990s. She would visit a restaurant 5 or 6 times in different disguises before writing her review. Her most famous review was also her first review for the paper. Le Cirque was reviewed by Molly Hollis, the ignored housewife from Michigan, and by Ruth Reichl, the recognized restaurant critic from the New York Times. The experiences were vastly different which resulted in a 1 star rating for the restaurant. Reichl also liked to review ethnic restaurants which created much angst for some long-time readers. An entertaining look at the restaurant reviewing game.

Did not think i would enjoy this but i must admit i thought it was great. I can could sink my teeth into the adventures that she got into. I found them to be cool dressing up and sneaking and no one knowing your true identity. I think that is wicked!!
