When I was a kid, Mike Tyson was truly a larger-than-life figure. His fights (or massacres) on PPV were always must-see events and I can still remember playing Punch-Out for hours on my Nintendo. So in 1990, when he got beat by Buster Douglas, a 42-1 underdog, it was HUGE. And author Joseph Layden does an excellent job documenting the events leading up to this historic fight and how it altered the lives of both boxers. More importantly, Layden argues that the sport of boxing has never been the same - a thesis I completely agree with. As the heavyweight division goes, so does the entire sport. Lennox Lewis, the Klitschkos and various others have never captured the public's imagination like Tyson did. But after his loss to Douglas, the sport failed to rebound from its glory days in the 80s.
