This is not a " how to " book for beginners. It has great photo illustrations from Joe Mcnally's photo's and short ( 1/2 to 2 pg. ) stories to go along with each photo. A lot of technical specs go with the photo's also. There is a glossary to go with this which explains terms in the back of the book. Like I said this is not a beginners manual of how to use a DSLR. It is very enjoyable read with many interesting photo's. McNally has a GREAT sense of humor which he employs in most of his books! I've been in photography for 15 yrs. and I thoroughly enjoyed the entire book! McNally is a world class photographer with decades of experience and the photo's and reputation to show for it. There are a couple mentions of his absence from home near the end of the book but that's to be expected if you spend your life in a career that takes you all over the world for different lengths of time.

Description is deceptive. Unorganized tips and brief explanations of techniques used in specific situations in the photographer's experience, told in short story format. Enjoyed the read but don't feel I learned much. What stuck most is how many stories seemed dedicated to the pro-photographer's absence as a father.
