White slavery was common in the British colonies of Virginia, Maryland, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and New York before the War of Independence. For tackling such a controversial topic that most books would hide, I would rate "White Cargo" at 5.0 stars.

Another fine book is "The Sugar Barons" by Matthew Parker. It discusses briefly the plight of white indentured servants in the British colony of Barbados in the 17th century.

The white cargo was NOT 'Britons' - They were IRISH PEOPLE FROM THE ISLE OF IRELAND! In a span of 50 years the British reduced the population of Ireland from 3 million people to 50,000.
