Unfortunately, Random House chose to include only fourteen of Rev. Awdry's twenty-six railway stories in this collection. Moreover, RH tightly cropped many of the original illustrations. RH also edited this collection to conform to the Thomas & Friends television series. Consequently, "the Fat Controller" is now known as "Sir Topham Hatt", and freight cars have replaced the trucks.

Regrettably, CPL has only one copy of the complete Railway Series collection <http://chipublib.bibliocommons.com/item/show/1536940081>.

Among the best collections of Thomas stories, because they are original versions written by W. Awdry and also contain his illustrations. Awdry thought the stories should teach a moral lesson, and you will see that in these. You will also see his understanding of how the British Railways worked back in the days of steam. Charming.
