When she was eighteen years old, a girl named Cynthia Powell met a boy named John Lennon and they fell in love. Their ten-year relationship coincided with the start of the Beatles phenomenon--from Liverpool's dockside clubs to the dizzying worldwide fame that followed. Here, Cynthia recalls those times with the loving honesty of an insider, offering new insights into the life of John Lennon and the early days of the Beatles. She tells of the breakdown of their marriage and the beginning of his relationship with Yoko Ono in detail, and documents the difficulties that estrangement from John--and his subsequent death--brought for herself and their son, Julian.--From publisher description.

I've read this book twice, (when it first came out and recently), it's a great read for any Beatle/Lennon fan. Gives a great insight into John Lennon as a person/father and doesn't just give you all the heroic hype that you often read in the press about him. It's a sad story, but I'm glad Cynthia shared it with us. The only thing I noticed that was a bit annoying was the history details she got wrong--like saying that John wrote All My Loving for her (he didn't, that's a Paul McCartney written song) or that John got shot December 9th before 11 pm (it was Dec. 9, early morning in Britian, but it was December 8th before 11 pm that he was shot)--details like that are not accurate. However, most people probably wouldn't notice things like that, I just happen to be a fan, that's why I do notice it ;) Anyway, a really easy book to read--extremely interesting too.
