Vinh Murphy, a one-time operative for the security firm Troubleshooters Inc., has been MIA ever since his wife, was caught in crossfire and killed during a routine assignment. He has spent the intervening years mourning and lost in an alcohol- induced fog.

Now, Tim Ebersole, the leader of the neo-Nazi group Murphy blamed for his wife's death, has been murdered, and suspicion is immediately cast on Murphy. He can't help his defense much since he can't remember if he did - or didn't - pull the trigger.

Murphy is finally ready to rejoin the living, and ends up knocking on Hannah Whitefield's door. Hannah had been a dear friend, and the woman who introduced Murphy to his wife. Though they share an undeniable attraction, Murphy keeps her at arm's length. But when it becomes clear that Ebersole's followers are targeting Murphy and Hannah to avenge their leader's death, Murphy must face the horrifying prospect of losing another woman he loves.

As he races toward a deadly confrontation, he must decide - surrender his life to save Hannah, or risk everything to salvage whatever future they may have together.

A unique and thrilling series . I love this series so much I don't want it to end.

So I actually procrastinated on reading this book for a long time. The premise was so dark, but I'm definitely glad I read it. Brockmann, as usual, came through with incredible characters, rich relationships, and intense action. She had me going several times with the Nash situation, and there were plenty of laughs and tears spread throughout the novel. It's exciting to watch the individuals grow throughout the series. Not only are they not perfect, but their relationships face realistic challenges. Even after the spotlight shifts away from a couple, they still come back in the series - and not just as two-dimensional scene setting or the all-knowing voice of experience. The Troubleshooters series is so great, and I really hope that Brockmann keeps it going!
