This is the story of a girl named Anna Bloom who was committed to a mental hospital by her parents for being depressed and overweight. There, she gets a roommate, sheds some pounds and meets a boy named Justin. The story is written as a series of letters to her best friend; Tracy.

This book is one of my favourites and for good reason. Julie Halpern writes the characters and dialogue in a way that makes each one loveable and very easy to relate to. Halpern had also spent time in a psychiatric hospital herself so there are a lot of details someone else might not have written or thought of.

Long story short, this is a book i would recommend to anyone interested in self-love, mental illness, romance and learning about all the struggles of being a teen stuck in a mental ward.

A good read! I really loved all the characters (and music) involved in this story. I think the satan worshipper was hilarious. There needs to be more stories with a twisted guy to make you laugh!

"Anna Bloom has skipped so many days of school due to anxiety and depression that her parents have committed her to a mental hospital. Instructed to keep track of her feelings in a journal, Anna instead writes (but never mails) honest and sharply funny letters to her best friend, Tracy. At first, her letters are filled with complaints about the hospital's hideous decor, her fellow patients, and a therapist who seems obsessed with Anna's weight. But after a while, Anna opens up to new perspectives...and maybe a new relationship. For more of Anna's refreshingly snarky observations, check out the sequel, Have a nice day." It's actually scary how accurate this is. It's an interesting subject, but it's not written profoundly well or incredibly good. Four stars.

Oh my gosh! I LOVED this book! Totally engrossing! From the cover, I suspected that it was going to be kind of a chick-lit trashy book but it TOTALLY was not. I loved every bit of Anna's story. Plus the ending was totally worth it! :)

Anna is overweight, depressed, and has never had a boyfriend. When she starts refusing to go to school, her parents bring her to a mental institution to "help her". Anna doesn't know that she will have the time of her life there. She'll meet tons of friends, hilarious acquaintances, and one extremely nice (and nice looking!) boy who just might snag her heart. I loved this book. It's fantastic, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to relive their first love. :)
