Excellent documentary, particularly for those with interest in Norcal culture, history. Famous Zen priest/cook Brown teaches at Tassajara Mountain Zen Center, SF Zen Center, Austrian Buddhist center, etc.; wrote Tassajara Bread Book, co-founder of Greens, etc. Important discussion of waste of food in modern society and avoiding such waste, weaving in teaching of Suzuki Roshi, Green Gulch conservation practices, amusing interview with a gleaner. Large, clear subtitles.

I think the technique for kneading the bread was precise and to me demonstrates artisan technique and skill. I found the teacher to be gentle in his feedback and not too hung-up about anything. I really enjoyed this film because it is such a different way of looking at cooking and life. People weren't rushing in the kitchen, the head chef wasn't screaming at people, unlike the hollywood stuff we often see. However, I must say, I have had a good week since watching the film, when there is a quote from the zen master who says we should think about joy. What creates joy? My lesson, my words: when you cook, make it joyful; when you clean, make it joyful, when you work, make it joyful.

A worthwhile movie however the Zen Master has some issues still to resolve and he is rigid on how to knead bread dough. It is also unZen like of him to mock other people's eating choices. That's the way I see it anyway..
