Written in the format of a play with acts instead of chapters, Geek Magnet is about KJ, a girl who describes herself as a “pied piper of geeks.” There are three notable geeks that all follow her around and put the kibosh on her crush on the school’s star football player. She’s also struggling with an alcoholic father and a disruptive home life. Her friend, Tama, convinces her that she has to get cruel if she ever wants to shed her geek posse.

I really liked this book. It shows that people are not always the way they seem in life - which is a good message. Not to mention its comical plot line and relatable characters.

In general, it was pretty good. Funny and cliched, but well-written. Teaches the difference between being cruel and being assertive. I liked the moments she stood up for herself very much. Can't help that when the love interest says at different times that protagonist was different from the usual people who cared about social politics that it wasn't true and she was a hypocrite. Otherwise, not bad at all.

I read this book awhile ago and remembered really liking it. I recommend this for pre-teens and for those who like good, clean, fun books without things like sex, drugs, alcohol, etc.

This book was a lot better than I expected. I'd read some of Kieran Scott/Kate Brian's other novels and although I loved the Private Series I thought most of her other books were terrible. But this one had likeable characters, and more depth than I had anticipated. It's fairly predictable but still an enjoyable summer read. I would recommend it for fans of Meg Cabot.
