Laetitia Talbot a young modern woman in the 1920's, beginning her career as an archaeologist, sounded interesting. But I didn't find myself engaged with Laetitia or any of the other characters in the novel. She's outspoken and independent, but doesn't seem to have any personality apart from that. She puts me in mind of an British version of Nancy Drew. Not a book I' d recommend, I read it through but I found it boring.
