Frank and April Wheeler live a life that appears to be perfect. They live in the Connecticut suburbs with two young children. Frank commutes to New York City where he works in an office job that he hates and has yet to figure out what his passion in life is. April is a housewife who forgoes her dream of being an actress. They are not happy. One day, April suggests that they move to Paris as a means to rejuvenate their life. Initially skeptical, Frank ultimately agrees to April's plan. When circumstances change around the Wheelers, April decides she will do whatever she has to to get herself out of her unhappy existence.

This is a great movie, very powerful. There seems to be an organised group of anti-abortionists who have planted bad reviews about this film. Pay no attention. Read the reviews of professional film critics if you need to, but down be fooled by these religious extremists.

This is pro-abortionist propaganda masquerading as a heart renching suburban drama. Safe to say there's nothing revolutionary about Revolutionary Road.

A story of people trying to get what they want in the 1950s, the age when everyone seemed to be getting what they wanted, at least in suburban NYC and CT. Two prominent themes are the lack of choices for women at that time and the oppressive expectations of men. As a later-Boomer, I sympathize with both parents. This situation could have happened—perhaps it did happen—in my family. But the characters didn't come alive in the first half for me. And in the second half, I kept asking myself "Where are the children?" These two had a lot of theatrical space for their confrontation that they would not have had in real life.

absolutely no socially redeeming value. these actors have to be embarrassed. don't waste your time on this one.

Revolutionary Road, directed by Sam Mendes, shows us a more unpleasant side of marriage. Set in 1955 we meet April and Frank Wheeler, played by Kate Winslet and Leonardo Dicaprio, a seemingly perfect young couple filled with all the hopes and dreams that start out, but then quietly and silently vanish. Based on the novel by Richard Yates we see both characters give in and give up in order to live in their suburban confines, while having little satisfaction at home and work. When April suggests moving to Paris it reignites their hopes, but with skepticism silently stewing in Frank April attempts to make sure their dream comes true no matter how high the cost.

The professional film critics got it right in my opinion. Kate Winslett deservedly won the Golden Globe award for best actress for her role in this film. By the way, Leonardo DiCaprio was a nominee and he was very good in this film. These two make a good couple. The film was directed by Academy Award winner Sam Mendes.

The story is moving and mesmerizing unless this kind of movie isn't the genre you like. If you never get excited about movies unless they are action & adventure, then this is the wrong genre for you. And furthermore, people who don't appreciate a drama about a couple should not be on this site giving us your opinion because we don't want the commments to be tainted by an opinion that is prejudiced.

One of the most boring and tedious movies I've ever seen. Not recommended.

Great movie all around. Fantastic acting.

I thought the movie was long and boring. I didn't know if April was bipolar, obsessive, a slut or all three. Frank wanted out then he wanted in then he wanted out. He had a pretty wife and was messing around with that woman from work who was plain ugly.
The woman that sold them the house had a thing with that house. Why didn't she buy it for herself? And if you're ambitious and have dreams of being an actress you don't want to live in a Suburb. That's plain stupid.

First off, if you think this is going to be Titanic 2, think again. Second, if you are looking for a wholesome family movie that will melt your heart, this isn't it. However, if you are willing to deal with a bit of stark reality - this is the movie for you. Great acting by both Kate and Leo and overall an excellent movie.
