In this sweeping narrative, which takes us from the Stone age to the Information age, Robert Wright unveils an astonishing discovery: there is a hidden pattern that the great monotheistic faiths have followed as they have evolved. Through the prisms of archeology, theology, and evolutionary psychology, Wright's findings overturn basic assumptions about Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, and are sure to cause controversy.

Fascinating title, and the opening chapters were good, but audio book was far too long. Middle and ending chapters dragged on and he could have made his point in much fewer words.

Insightful and compelling - I had several "aha" moments while listening to this audiobook. The evolution of religions in general and Abrahamic religions in particular are fascinating and provide a lot of insight about others reactions to world events. The zero sum and non-zero sum argument the author applies throughout the book explains much about the behaviors of apocaliptic Christians and radical Muslims.

I am less than half-way through, but this will revolutionize your understanding of religion, looking at concepts among hunter-gatherer societies, animism, shamanism, and the emergence of monotheism in the ancient Near East. It will force one to rethink the Yahwist tradition as handed down in the Hebrew Bible and reintroduce us to the Ugaritic El and Asherah. I am determine to read more about Canaanite polytheism because of this book..
