World War II thriller about the axis and allied influences in the island of Malta. Well written and very descriptive and imaginative; the scenes were discussed with flouish. It took a little while to get use to the World War II jargon of the time and the cities and towns in Malta relative to each other in the story but well worth it at the thrilling end. I have to give it 4 stars only because it was very confusing decifering the meaning of words in descibing the good guys and the bad guys.

absolutely loved it.

A good read, not a part of WWII history I was familiar with.

What's one more corpse on an island already on the verge of collapse after the most ferocious air bombardment in history? The question doesn't occur to the dogged title character. He's the chief propagandist of the British colonial government and all too aware of the pitfalls of his job, trying to find the good news on an island at the mercy of the Luftwaffe. But he becomes obsessed with finding justice for a young woman whose death may be due to his own country's forces. Brilliant evocation of the nightmarish fear and frenetic hedonism of wartime. The characters are drawn with warmth and perception, and the plotting is tense throughout.

Very good mystery as well as insight into the situation on Malta during world war II. I found the ending a little rushed but would like to read more by Mills
