I'm glad this series got better as time went on. The first season's dialog is full of coarse comments and innuendoes that are not true of the later seasons. Fortunately they figured out that people who like science and who'd watch the shows would not like cheap sexual comments and behaviors. Sex, yes, but not the common, coarse type often depicted or implied here. Once Cam came into the scripts, the level rose. Not that the previous low level had been the fault of the previous boss, but was of course the fault of writers.
The quality continued to rise for several years. Not the last couple of seasons, by which both main characters were just boring and repetitive. But I'd say seasons two to 9, or so, were a constant joy.
