If you enjoy a light historical mystery you will enjoy “Quest for a killer” by Alanna Knight. Rose McQuinn is delighted when the circus arrives in Edinburgh. However, at the same time as the circus appeared, a series of crimes took place in the neighbourhood near where the circus was set up. A bank clerk is found dead after a bank robbery and hour’s later two young women are dead in apparent separate suicide attempts. Rose McQuinn is a female detective and she is helping her ex-finance, Inspector Jack Macmerry on a fraud case that might be tied up with the recent deaths. Rose has some theories about who the killer might be and she shares this information with a new found friend, the wife of Edinburgh philanthropist. Things take a turn for the bizarre when both Mr. Rice and his valet are found dead and Rose then realizes that she might be the next victim of this ruthless killer.

Rose, the daughter of Inspector Faro of another series by this author, is a Lady Investigator. There is a hint of the supernatural in this book, possibly because of the setting. I will try one more book in this series before I decide to continue or give it up.
