Each month in Philadelphia, the Vidocq Society -- an elite group of gifted investigators from several countries -- comes together to solve cases brought to them by stumped detectives. The Society consists of coroners, profilers, forensic experts, detectives, and others; the cases are uniformly cold. Formed more than 20 years ago, the Society has consulted on more than 300 cases -- and solved an impressive 90% of them. This intimate look into their efforts focuses on three aspects in particular -- the challenging cases, the organisation itself, and its three founders. True-crime fans won't be able to get enough of this "terrifying, engrossing, inspirational and surprisingly funny" (Kirkus Reviews) book. Popular Culture January 2015 newsletter.

An excellent review of an odd couple, Frank Bender - part Cassanova, part psychic and Richard Walter 100% cold analytical forensic psychiatrist. Together they solved some of North America's toughest cold cases. This book is of interest to any serious investigation into criminal profiling and exploration of evil motive.

This book is certainly interesting, and feeds into my penchant for murder mysteries; however, by the end I had lost the author and his subjects in their quests to get the bad guys. They dump on the legal protections offered to American citizens so much that it becomes a little disheartening. Those protections are there to protect the innocent, and they seem to forget that.

More biography than puzzle, I got bored.
