Frightening documentation of the "World According to Palin". Only drawback of the very well written book is that the story stops before the 2012 US election. Supporting documentation is solid and extensive.

Two suggestions for sequels: "The Lunacy of Michele Bachmann" and "How Christine O'Donnell makes Sarah Palin looks Well Informed"

This is a well documented expose of Sarah Palin. The book provides details of her life prior to coming to national attention when she was nominated as McCain's running mate in the 2008 election. It chronicles the very slim information McCain and his advisors had on her and her complete inadequacy as a potential Vice-resident. The book concludes prior to the 2012 election but does cover her continuing negative impact on the American political scene (for example her defence of the cross hairs targeting Gabby Giffords on her website) and her flirting with the idea of running as a presidentail candidate. Reading Palin's statements and answers in interviews as quoted in the book it is striking how wholly inadequate she is for any level of leadership let alone one on the national stage. It is frightening to think she was ever considered a viable candidate as V-P. One also realises that she is more interested in connecting with an audience, at which she is very good by all accounts, through using key words and phrases but appears to understand very little of any substance that could properly constitute an ideology or philosophy of governent, she simply does not bother with anything that requires a moment's worth of thought. Her inadequacy is not lost on fellow Republians such as Peggy Noonan and Karl Rove (others are also cited in the book) and one hopes that in future a similar individual does not emerge as it does no favours to the Republican Party itself.

Despite the somewhat cheesy title, this book has some solid evidence of Palin’s unreliability and unsuitability for national office. Sometimes there’s too much irrelevant detail such as when the author discusses at some length Palin’s behavior and personality in 8th grade and also makes the discovery that none of her college instructors remember her, but in other ways there’s a lack of information. He doesn’t tell at all about her jobs prior to being elected Mayor of Wasilla and doesn’t discuss her getting married or having children until she has her last, Trig, who was born with Down’s syndrome.

But I guess he’s not trying to write a biography exactly. He maintains that she has her own brand of demagoguery that “preys on fear and racial divisions”. Many people have been quoted as saying that she’s not really interested in the issues; she’s just focused on getting as far as she can get. Apparently a high number of people think she may have a narcissistic personality disorder because of her propensity to grandiosity, need for admiration and lack of empathy. She has a long history of lying and using people for her own purposes without regard for truth or fairness. The people she has lied to and/or used includes many in her own party and in the McCain campaign, as well as the usual Democrats and the media. Some observers see her Pentecostal faith as central in her thinking; she has a tendency to break everything down into a battle between good and evil which leads her to want to destroy her enemies as if in some righteous battle.

I was surprised to read that some Alaskans in Wasilla when she was in mayor, and throughout the state when she was governor, thought she was kinda crazy. During the Presidential campaign in 2008, after some disastrous media interviews, reportedly she went into a depression – not eating, not drinking, not sleeping, refusing to prepare for the vp debate – until a staffer was finally able to get through to her and they relocated to McCain’s property in Arizona. It is truly scary to think of her even being vice president, much less president. She is not smart enough, stable enough, or competent. Maybe her personality could get her a news anchor job somewhere but that should be as far as she goes. Never, never vote for her for any position whatsoever.
