I LOVE THIS BOOK! One of my hobbies is making sock monkeys and this book has lots of fun patterns to make other sock animals such as; cats, penguins, hamsters, fish, owls and even mermaids!! I can't wait for her next book 'Sockology'!!!

There are some cute ideas here, but as for basic doll construction, this book is quite awful. Most of Maloney's creations rarely attempt to manipulate or change the basic shape of the sock itself, which leads to doll designs that rarely rise above thier origins. After all, cutting all the toes off one end of the sock, sewing it all up into a large rectangle, and then reattaching the toes to one side does not make a convincing fish.

Try "Stray Sock Sewing" by Dan Ta instead--you will learn a lot more and come to look at socks in a new way, as a material that can be deconstructed and reworked in interesting ways.
