Very engaging story!

I like the character Angel Clare very much. I like the name, the character, as well as the actor who played that character.

A flawless film! I loved every minute of it; it's so engrossing! You do not have to read Thomas Hardy's novel to appreciate this magnificent story!. I love it so much!

A 'Must See' - great actors, great dialogues and exquisite music. This film is a great pleasure to all the senses ....

Absolutely stunning version of the Hardy classic. The director/cinematographer had a vision and it was fulfilled. West England was an amazing setting for this film. Well acted by all the main characters. This is a heavy, heavy, story, highlighting Tess' resilience to never be a victim and to never feel sorry for herself, no matter what her circumstances. Eddie Redmayne is amazing, as always, and the actors who played her flawed mother and father were outstanding. This is not a lighthearted BBC film... it is an interpretation of Hardy's novel that is worth seeing.

Beautifully done, but a bit slow paced. A true tragedy. A heartbreaking story of how one event can change lives.

It's a good story and actors are very good. I really liked the actress who played Tess. But beware, it's increadibly sad, should have a kleenex box during watching. The movie is somewhat slowpaced.

Absolutly amazing. I picked this up on a whim and was so delightfully surprised at how much I loved it. The acting and casting were perfect and even the sets and costumes were very well done. I've never read the book so I can't make any comparisons, but this was just so fantastic!

Beautifully done. Hardy had subtitled his book "A Pure Woman" and though this movie depicts a rape, she never claims it as such, leading to the argument that Hardy wished to bring forth in Victorian times: What constitutes purity? Tess was certainly pure, unselfish and no hypocrite. Alec was self-serving and unhappy, but his arrogance was nothing (in my opinion) to the arrogance and hypocrisy of Angel. Hardy brings to our attention these traits and encourages us to examine our beliefs and actions - and this movie has faithfully done justice to the author's intent.
