This is a fun, quick read. The banter between the main characters is whitty and enjoyable. I really like that India is a strong, willfull protagonist while not being great at everything. She doesn't master every task the first time and occasionaly has to climb out of holes she has dug for herself. This makes her more believable and made her easier to root for. Overall, great read!

The cheeky interactions between the characters is fun to watch as they get in and out of trouble. This is the second book that I have read by Carr and it did not disappoint. I really look forward to reading more of her books.

Highly entertaining! I wasn't sure what to think about a herione who owned a brothel, but I ended up thoroughly enjoying this read.

This was a super easy, breezy read but it still had substance. India Black is what you call "indomitable". As a London brothel keeper it is pretty hard to scare her or intimidate her. I definitely liked the book more than I thought I would but it was not as good as some of the other Victorian era mysteries that I have read.

Really delightful. An utterly different cast from traditional Victorian historical fiction, albeit similar male/female wit and tension.
