Add a SummaryNeil Flambé is a teenage chef with a little restaurant and a HUGE ego. One day, his 'idiot' sous chef and cousin, Larry goes to Japan to work on his newest online comic about Neil. Neil soon discovers Larry and his manga artist for the comic, Hiro pass away on a boating trip. Neil is devastated. But then, a spark of hope lights when Neil sees a change in the comic only Larry could have made and only Neil could have noticed. Could it be possible Larry is alive? Soon, Neil finds himself in Tokyo, Japan looking for Larry with a cover story of being there because of a deadly cooking duel with a crazy, evil, rich mastermind. And soon, he's also on a wild goose chase for a sacred treasure. Mama, Mia! What did Neil get himself into?
Neil flambé is a teenage chef. His cousin, Larry flambé works in his restaurant with him. When Larry tells Neil that he is going to japan to work on his manga comic 'the chef' , Neil is very surprised. Then the horrible news comes. Larry is missing at sea. Neil then sees clues on the manga that only he would notice. Could Larry still be alive? Neil goes to japan , finds himself in a giant cooking battle and tries to find a sacred treasure.

Add a CommentThe stakes get considerably higher as Neil agrees to a duel to the death—a cooking competition where the loser is fed to the sharks! It’s no laughing matter this time. That is mainly because the primary source of humor—Neil’s insouciant cousin Larry—is lost and presumed dead at sea.
Of course, it’s unlikely that such a robust, Falstaffian character like Larry could ever truly die. But the book has fun teasing us with the probabilities of Larry’s death. The clues are liberally sprinkled in but the chief conflict may be nothing more than a red herring. (Sorry. Couldn’t resist.)
I haven’t stated anything up until now about the illustrations in this series. That’s because I felt they are nothing special. They look like heavy pen drawings, crude and unlovely. Even if they do manage to capture the moods and features of the various individuals in Mr. Sylvester’s Flambé mysteries, they resemble nothing so much as unfinished art projects.
But this book includes something new—a manga short that makes clever use of Mr. Sylvester’s unfinished style. It’s funny, exciting, silly and pokes fun of its main subject while celebrating it at the same time. It gives that soupçon of flavor that raises this series above the ordinary.
Fans of Mr. Sylvester’s temperamental egotistic cook will be happy to learn there is another Flambé mystery cooking. I for one can hardly wait.
This book is amazing and so is the series I cannot wait until the library gets the next book bards banquet
This book is really nice compared to the 2nd and the 3rd books of Neil Flambe. I enjoyed this book because it was adventurous and mysterious. It's got a great twist to the story. LOVE IT!
The beginning is just all about conversations but then it becomes so much awesome. Its a good book

I think it was a great book to enjoy! What a strong relationship between Isabella and Neil! I think Neil was a fantastic chef with all his creative ideas for cooking. The beginning was pretty off but soon it became suspense!
This book is interesting. It deals with family and how close they are to each other. The book is full of suspense. Recommended if you really like cooking.
