Most of the book contains stories about Ruby and her daughter Nora. A handful of the stories are not about that family at all. I think I would have found this book more enjoyable if the stories were either all connected or not connected at all. The book has an odd structure, and I found myself searching for connections in the book that weren’t there. Even the stories about Ruby and Nora seemed disconnected from each other with a murky timeline and unexplained location changes.

This is one of the best reads in a long time. Natalie Serber takes the familar theme of family dysfunction and disorder and breathes in new life.
Her characters are original, maddening, attractive and unlikeable.
Her writing is exquisite. Wow can she turn a phrase..... If you read anything this this.
