By associating an easily-remembered visual image and story with each Kanji, the learner is able to commit the characters to long-term memory far more easily and quickly than ever before. mnemonics also dramatically helps students to write kanji as well. This revolutionary new method has been tried by many thousands of students, and it really works!

Using a systematic building-block approach to written Japanese, this beginner kanji book also shows you how more complicated characters are constructed from simpler elements. And similar mnemonic strategies are provided for learning the different pronunciations or "readings" of the characters. The CD-ROM that is included provides audio recordings by Japanese native speakers to perfect your pronunciation. It also provides a unique interactive software program showing you how to write each character and allowing you to write it yourself on screen!

A decent book for learning Japanese Kanji. Every Kanji has an illustration and silly story associated with it, which helps you encode both the meaning and pronunciation. It also features self-gradeable reviews at the end of every chapter (as well as cummulative reviews), which might be useful for some learners.

Overall, the book is one of the better Kanji books. But, I still consider the Kondansha Kanji Learner's Course the holy grail for learning Kanji. So if you had to get one book, it'd be that. Not to mention there's a wealth of KLC Anki decks out there, which saves you a lot of time for adding Spaced Repetition to your learning process.

(Note: there is also the book "Mastering Japanese Kanji" at CPL. It's *EXACTLY* the same book. The text, illustrations Kanji entries are literally identical. The only discernable difference is that book has 10 chapters instead of this book's 22. So, this is the one to get.)
