Emma is too ridiculous in this adaption. Emma is supposed to have a degree of elegance about her, which Romola Garai does not portray in this adaption. If you want to see a good adaption, watch the 1996 adaption with Gynweth Paltrow. Personally, the casting could be better in this.

I haven't read Emma all the way through, but I absolutely ADORE Romola Garai and Jonny Lee Miller. They were perfect choices for these characters, and this adaptation gets full marks from me!

I had not remember Emma being *this* annoying when I read the book. She is truly vacuous and snobby in this mini-series, the worst possible combination. These characteristics were really accentuated in this version of Emma. Her eyes are opened so wide so often that it looks like they are about to pop out of her head, adding to the ridiculousness of her character. What a disappointing rendition. I have always been so fond of BBC renditions. A flop.

I so love this version of Emma, my favorite Austen book! Romola Garai's performance is spot on!

Romola Garai's performance is the only element that persuades me to rate this film as high as I have. For the best version of "EMMA" see the 1996's version starring Gwyenth Paltrow. That's all.

"Badly done, Emma, badly done." Fortunately, for the audience: Jonny Lee Miller and Romola Garai shine in this wonderful Jane Austen production.

An excellent interpretation of Jane Austen's novel, with developed supporting characters and lovely period costumes, hairstyles, etc. The leads have great friendship chemistry, and the emphasis is more on the multiple subplots than on the title character. The ending did feel a bit rushed (in terms of Harriet's romance, anyway) but I really enjoyed this.

Fine version of Austen's book. Miller, Greig, Gambon do fine; Romola Garai is very appealing as the heroine.
