I was underwhelmed. There didn't seem to be much story propelling things forward, other than pettiness and jealousy. I couldn't finish it.

"Behind the Candelabra" is a five out of five stars. This documdrama about legendary performer Liberace is wonderful. Who knew that Michael Douglas could convincingly play the part of Liberace a gay man. Matt Damons performance as Liberaces lover is outstanding. Behind the Candelabra" portrays the nonglamerous side of the Liberace storey.

I suppose this was a love story, at least according to Scott Thorson. But I must admit to finding it more sordid and twisted than uplifting....

I found myself very engrossed in this movie. Found myself thinking about it for a couple days. I guess that says it all. Michael Douglas was excellent, as was Matt Damon. While Liberace was the highest grossing entertainer during his time, and he earned it with his work. His secret "gay" personal life was a train wreck. Taking in 16 year old boys as lovers? He was nothing but a pedaphile. He'd be in jail today for his actions. But nevertheless, he almost got away with it back then, the ultimate cost was his own life. Sad to think about how he got away with so much because he was a rich celebrity with so much to hide. I know this movie gives us only a glimpse of what really went on, and that is scarey. Liberace was one sick individual. This movie was worth the watch.

Michael Douglas was truly outstanding as Liberace. Bravo!

This film was much better than I expected. It's a tragic story, but laugh-out-loud funny at times. Liberace gets off lightly. He was in his sixties when he procured the company of a naive, emotionally-deprived teenager, completely derailing the young man's life. (You can read about Thorson's hellish existence online.) If a teenage girl had been targeted and used like this he'd have been vilified--and rightly so.

Spectacular performances by Douglas, Damon and Lowe. The story was well written. Costumes, sets and music were all terrific. All in all, it's a very entertaining and revealing look at Liberace's private life.

While “Behind the Candelabra” certainly delivers on grand settings and dazzling costumes, the story lacks substance. Given its stellar cast, I was hoping for more from this film.

Entertaining, but I think there was more to Liberace then was shown in this movie. I think there should have been more scenes of his brilliant piano playing. This movie only showed mostly negetative parts of his life. It was a time where one could not expose one's personal life or their career would be ruined. Today stars are coming out of the closet everyday. I think he did his best and that he was a Great Artist and Person.

I found this movie to be precise, not offensive or over the top. He was a flamboyant persona (like any big name stars today) who liked to show it off. He didn't pretend to be anything short of flamboyant. He died in a time new to the public about AIDS. I enjoyed the movie and learned more about Liberace, which is the point of most true-to-life movies.
