Utterly predictable. You'll feel you've seen it all before. Totally condescending portrayal of the older people in the choir. Made me cringe. The only worthwhile moment was the last of the outtakes.

Moving story of love, grief, forgiveness, and singing in community. Terence Stamp is excellent as a curmudgeon who, from his love for his wife, learns to apologize and gradually acknowledge his care for others, particularly his son. Gemma Arterton is charming as a young music teacher who finds life richest working with seniors (although of the group, only Stamp's character has any problems). It felt a little forced to have the seniors focused on contemporary songs such as "Let's Talk about Sex," especially when they sang this song in a park with young children present. The ending (of course, a national song competition) was a little too Hollywood, but the treatment of the couple facing serious health issues and grief was real and moving. A very good film.

This is one of these movies that either you cry or...you cry (otherwise you are insensible, like me). Good, entertaining movie with flawless acting.

AKA Song for Marion. Not just another end of life tale but also the beginning of new lives for those left behind. Enjoyed Arthur's serenade to Marion as well as to his son and granddaughter "Goodnight, my angel" very much, watch video or see lyrics under quote.

I loved this feel good movie about a group of seniors who form a choir and enter a choir competition. Sad, but also happy movie. It will make you cry, but well worth watching. Really makes you think about getting older and being vital and full of life even until death.

Absolutely brilliant! Who else but Vanessa Redgrave and Terence Stamp could convey so much emotion with clasped hands or one look? I think the success of a movie or book is if it makes you care about the characters, and this movie does.

Just watched this and I enjoyed the acting of both Terence Stamp and Vanessa Redgrave. She stuns and he still smolders....amazing work. The plot is predictable, but the singing and the choir numbers were engaging.
My husband even stayed awake for the whole movie!

Closed captions are excellent: Large, sharp: 100% readability.

The movie? A hefty dose of Schmaltz but it works. Can be suitable for all ages; for children it can offer a good way to learn of the otherwise much avoided topic of death in a non-threatening manner. (Kids are exposed to so much violence on tv, movies, in computer games, the news etc that this is benign in comparison). As far as curmudgeonly characters go, where aren't there any?

Goodnight, my angel
Time to close your eyes
And save these questions
for another day
I think I know
what you've been asking me
I think you know
what I've been trying to say
I promised I would never leave you
And you should always know
Wherever you may go
No matter where you are
I never will be far away
Good night, my angel
Now it's time to sleep
Time to sleep
And still so many things I want to say
Remember all the songs you sang for me
When we went sailing
on an emerald bay
And like a boat upon the ocean
I'm rocking you to sleep
Through waters dark and deep
Inside this ancient heart
Good night, my angel,
now it's time to dream
And dream how wonderful
our life has been
Some day we all must go
But lullabies go on and on
They never die
Just like you and I...
will be
