This is a 1953 American indie film written and directed by Ray Ashley, Morris Engel and Ruth Orkin.
It is a charming fable that poetically captures the joys and wonders of childhood.
It is filmed in a naturalistic style with nonprofessional actors in lead roles.
It appears more like a documentary with a lot of unintended humor.
In 1997, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry.

Great movie for its time. Great story; got a little slow occassionally. Loved that it is recognized as the first indie movie. Bonus features on the DVD were very interesting about the writer/director/producer.
