Record a voice and it lasts forever... In 1993, Ryan records a diary on an old tape. He talks about his mother’s death, about his dreams, about his love for a new girl at school who doesn’t even know he exists. In 2013, Ameliah moves in with her grandmother after her parents die. There, she finds a tape in the spare room. A tape with a boy’s voice on it – a voice she can’t quite hear, but which seems to be speaking to her. Ryan and Ameliah are connected by more than just a tape. This is their story.

Two hundred pages into the novel and I still can't get into it. I tried. I really tried. I have a nasty habit of giving up on books halfway through or even less than that. But this one was no exception. I had such high hopes too. I was counting on something different. The story was predictable, the writing flat and boring. Ryan and Ameliah's tale failed to captivate me, much less pique my interest. The characters were flat and tasteless with no flavor to spice things up and I couldn't relate to them in any way. I don't recommend this to anyone. At least not for those of you who actually have good taste in reading material.

A girl and her dead father learn they can communicate when she plays the cassette tape he used to record his thoughts on when he was a teen. Intriguing premise but terrible, amateurish writing. Don't waste your time on this one.
