Frankie Rowley has come home to the small New Hampshire town of Pomeroy and the farmhouse where her family has always summered after working in East Africa for 15 years. On her first night back, a house up the road burns to the ground. Is it an accident, or arson? Over the weeks that follow, as Frankie comes to recognize her father's slow failing and her mother's desperation, another house burns, and then another, always the homes of summer people.

Overall slow.

This started out on a good note, but then all the interesting characters like Sylvia were pushed aside for Frankie and Bud's romance, which was very ill-done.

Keeps you interest but can be tedious. Love scenes made me gag.

A satisfying book in typical Sue Miller style, with a troubled family in picturesque New England and some illegal goings-on. For me, the somewhat untidy resolution felt true to the characters and to real life.

The ending was rushed. The book was so so.

The Arsonist by Sue Miller, I had such great expectaions for was a disappointment from Fall on Your Knee's, which I really enjoyed.

It seemed just to be going no where interesting most of the time, and although I finished it, I wondered as I closed the book at the end, how I ever stuck with it.

Not her best!!

the ending was a big let-down. I know that life is messy. but a little more resolution would be nice. the relation between Frankie & Sylvia was great.

I was really caught up for the first two-thirds, then let down. The author left too many things unresolved. Keeps you wondering after the book is finished.

A patron review from the Adult Summer Game: "I'm generally a big Sue Miller fan but this book was a bit of a slog. It has a great premise but the characters left me a bit cold."
