Solid high science fiction for a book based on a video game. I've never been that interested in the lore of the Halo games, and I can't remember how I came across this book. Either way, the story within it was excellent, and could probably stand on its own merits if it had nothing to do with the Halo series. The story includes concepts such as civilization collapse, class conflict, imperialism and the re-assimilation of war veterans. It takes a while for the story to pick up, but after slogging through the first 1/3rd of the book, its worth it to read. The same goes for the two sequel books, "Silentum" and "Primordium".

Seemas like this was written to support the game? Never played Halo however, this is nicely paced and not bad. Greg Bear, would anyone expect less ?

A middling readable Greg Bear tome in the spirit of Larry Niven. Good characters, decent plot, only minor organization problems. Well edited.

This was an decent read, but I didn't think it was up to Greg Bear's normal standard. Slightly disappointing.
