The television series has a depth and humanity the book and the cold-blooded, shallow movie lack. This season pay particular attention to 'THE WINCHESTER TAPES'. Charles Emerson Winchester is granted a humanity never allowed Frank Burns (and that Larry Linville could have so beautifully portrayed. See the episode when Hot Lips informs Frank she engaged to be married. As the helicopter carrying her flies off, all Frank Burns quietly murmurs is "Good-by, Margaret." - and in the those two words Larry Linville conveys all the love, all the shattered dreams, all the heartbreak of what had been and what might have been if only....if only.)

This season had one of the best episodes in its long run: "In Love and War" Hawkeye falls in love, rather than in lust as he usually did. Tender and heartbreaking, as it was so down to earth. I won't say any more so as not to give it away, but I hope you'll watch it.

Also good, a pair of episodes, "Comrades in Arms, parts 1 and 2". Hawkeye and Margaret get stranded in enemy fire. Their behavior was so very human, and not superficial. I felt quite touched.
