I thought the book was deadly slow. I love a good cozy and Agatha Christie was the best, but this new version lacks a crisp narrative. I, also felt that to call it a Hercule Poirot novel was extremely misleading. Poirot had such a minor role in the book that it felt like "bait and switch". I was so hopeful that Hannah's books would be Christie-like, but other than the setting, I didn't see much similarity. Pretty disappointed.

horribly slow, kept fast forwarding desperate to see something moving, but one long monologue after another describing boring dinners and ... This writer hasn't heard of 'pacing' it seems.

sad to say i found this book long winded and boring. don't get me wrong i love Agatha Christie and other (esp. english murder mysteries) but..this one did not hold my attention it needed editing it seemed to go on and i skipped to the end and it was too simplistic. i think now that dear Agatha is in her grave we should just let her be and just enjoy the books she has written.

Catchpool returns with more confidence than in Monogram Murders to narrate what happens when Lady Playford, the children's author, calls him and Poirot to her country manor because she expects an event from her announcement about her changing her will. Poirot matches wits with his witnesses and hangs his case on all the elements and an impeccable observation of character, filled with satire.

Spot-on, classic manor-house Christie/Poirot fanfiction.
