The Bodine ranch and resort in western Montana is a family business, an idyllic spot for vacationers. A little over thirty thousand acres and home to four generations, it's kept running by Bodine Longbow with the help of a large staff, including new hire Callen Skinner. There was another member of the family once: Bodine's aunt, Alice, who ran off before Bodine was born. She never returned, and the Longbows don't talk about her much. The younger ones, who never met her, quietly presume she's dead. But she isn't. She is not far away, part of a new family, one she never chose--and her mind has been shattered... When a bartender leaves the resort late one night, and Bo and Cal discover her battered body in the snow, it's the first sign that danger lurks in the mountains that surround them. The police suspect Cal, but Bo finds herself trusting him--and turning to him as another woman is murdered and the Longbows are stunned by Alice's sudden reappearance. The twisted story she has to tell about the past--and the threat that follows in her wake--will test the bonds of this strong family, and thrust Bodine into a darkness she could never have imagined.

Same ol' same ol'. If you've read any Nora Roberts, this is exactly the same, just different names and places. Not worth it if you know what's coming.

Loved this classic Nora Roberts book. Extremely fast read, easy to follow story and enough action to keep things interesting.

Nora Roberts is a GREAT author......she always has strong women & men roles, with suspense and predictability in her writing. The good guys always win..... which is comforting to me with all the evil and craziness that is in our world today.

I really enjoy Nora Roberts' (and J.D. Robb's) writing but this one was too predictable to me.

every once in a while I have a hankering for a Nora Roberts book. This one wasn't the one. Almost quit halfway through. Alice intrigued me though and her recovery. That was the only thing that kept me going. Don't think I'll have than hankering again if she keeps writing like this. Used to really enjoy her writing.

The book has an interesting concept in that it tells us about running a ranch and resort as a business. To make it interesting there is romance and suspense thrown in. Good idea but I wish the 'Suspense' did not involve so much violence.
The Bodines and Longbows run the ranch with three generations of women playing an active part. Alice leaves home never to return. Alice's life and the Bodines' are described in parallel till they coalesce in a horrifying way; will there be a happy ending? Read and find out!

I started out enjoying this book, but then had difficulty with the character of Bodine. The character was someone whom I could not like because she had to do everything and it seemed she was offended if someone else had an idea or a solution. After seeing the number of people waiting for this novel I decided to return it to the library and perhaps give it another try at another time.

Though it was well-written (as all of hers are) I found it a hard read as it was incredibly violent/brutal -I found myself struggling to get through it for that reason -I hope she goes on the lighter side for her next book.
