This tells a sometimes disturbing story of classism in India. For poor children there is a lottery to get into the "better" schools. Sometimes people lie on their application forms to get their child in. This family went to extremes of moving out of their house into the slums to fake people out. The family was well off business people who weren't really rich but were doing really well as upper middle class. They later form a friendship with a family of a child that truly is living under the less than desirable conditions. But for what they have their family is happy.

This poses challenges as some people get found out for trying to cheat the lottery or scholarship program. It also has the family taking an interest in a poorer school maybe to ease their conscience at one point. Helping renovate the school and get it new materials with help of the children working on school repairs such as painting walls. In the end the well off family genuinely challenges the "better" school with a performance by the children from the poorer school. To challenge the upper class on their classist thinking and ideas about who is really "better."
