"The home of a family of five is now a crime scene: four of them savagely murdered, one--a sixteen-year-old girl--missing. Was she lucky to have escaped? Or is her absence evidence of something sinister? Detective D. D. Warren is on the case--but so is survivor-turned-avenger Flora Dane. Seeking different types of justice, they must make sense of the clues left behind by a young woman who, whether as victim or suspect, is silently pleading, Look for me."--

Not a great book. It has a great idea for a story but lacks implementation. There is not character development. I would not recommend this book and agree with some of the other lower ratings.

I read part of this book and lost interest. Returned to library.

What starts off as a murder mystery turns out to be the story of a broken family and the horrors that can happen in foster care.

The first chapter, while introducing a tertiary character, is completely unrelated to the rest of the book, and one has to wonder if it was included because the rest of the book wasn't gory enough?

First book I read by Lisa Gardner. Two strong women, detective D.D. Warren and abducted-survivor-protector Flora Dane reluctantly team up to search for teenage Roxy after vicious murders. Was Roxy responsible for the killings or was she trying to escape? Includes a background of the foster care system, abuse, gangs, the underprivileged & preyed upon and our survival instincts.

Not a terrible book, but also not very enjoyable. It went on and on. And on. I think a good proofreader with a red pen could have eliminated about a hundred pages without hurting the intent. Too bad, I usually enjoy her books.

What a boring book! Would like to know why all the characters; who was "I" in the book-had no ideas who she was talking about half the time; why go into so much detail about a kid that dies 4 months earlier; just to much detail about places and people.
Not impressed with this book at all! Can't even rate this book cause it wouldn't show on the radar!!!

I was totally invested in this book! I could not put it down, the twists and turns kept me guessing to the very end. This was the first book I read of Lisa Gardner's and I will now have her on my list of must reads from now on. Highly recommend this book, you won't be disappointed.

omg couldn't put this book down. Kept waiting and hoping the many characters would survive this ordeal. The plot took so many directions whilst keeping me along for the ride. The author always keeps us guessing until almost the very end.

The characters in this story have all been damaged, several of them in very profound ways. Some cope well. Some do not. And it is at that crossroads that the events in this story take place.

Through the essays of the central character, Roxanne, we are asked to examine what makes a family work and what destroys it, how identify who is family (made or given) to us, and how far we will go (good or evil) to protect them.

Conversely, we are treated to a searing look inside foster families and the terrible toll they can take on those forced to live in them.

While technically this book is a thriller, it is also very serious. There are deep and visceral lessons to be learned here, and if reading this story doesn't make you count your own blessings and hug your own family particularly tight, I would be surprised.
