Startrd strong but then became simply unbelievable. The writer was trying maybe too hard to tell a story about truth vs a good story...the main character a journalist struggles with this. But its too obvious what the writer is aiming for and midway through the book he lost me by going too over the top.
I wouldnt waste my time with this book.

author didn't have to think too hard to write this. Just retold the Casey Anthony story. Very jumbled writing.

While author does a great job of detailing what it's like dealing with a sociopath and pathological liar, I found the book to be difficult to get through. Wading through the numerous lies to find out what really happened was a challenge, and I was relieved to finish it.

A stand alone from one of my favourite authors.

Mercer Hennessey's shattered life now has the added complication of a sociopath, Ashlyn Bryant.
Ashlyn's on trial for the murder of her two year old daughter, Tasha, but the evidence is all circumstantial. Writing a book based on the live trial is supposed to bring Mercer back to her job as a reporter. The gruesomeness of the photographic evidence and the defendant's tall tales replacing truth has Mercer questioning everything in her own life.

I found the constantly changing 'truth' very frustrating. I wanted to grab Ashlyn and shake her, especially when she began to mess with Mercer's head.

I only rated this 4/5 because it wasn't a comfortable story to read even though it was so well written it made me dislike the characters so intensely that it probably deserves a 5.

A damaged journalist, recovering from her family’s car accident, covers a Casey Anthony-style murder trial – and gets personally involved with the defendant. An enthralling novel that works as a legal thriller, an investigative procedural, and a psychological thriller, all at once.
