Weird movie. It makes all of them looked like idiots running a big country which I don’t think it’s true. Maybe some bits are true but this movie just artfully makes the foolishness to the extreme. Academic award may appreciate the acting but to me it’s not pleasant to watch.

I'm afraid I must agree with all the negative reviews (although my husband liked it). I saw no redeeming qualities. It was such a waste of all the effort that went into the creation of this film. There was absolutely no point to it.

Excellent movie. Not to be missed. A period piece "updated" for current enjoyment - don't know where the plot will go next. All 3 leads give great performances. O Coleman and R Weisz received numerous well deserved nominations and awards.

The Favorite is a fun period drama of how love can both heal and twist us. It’s a story filled with under the table deals, back stabbing, and all the drama that entails. It's rife with interesting choices in cinematography that also make it a worthy watch.

Fair warning, this movie can get quite uncomfortable and you won’t be able to root for any of the characters. The characters are complicated and morally dubious which I think makes the movie more interesting.

Cringey and not even in a good way for a raunchy film.

Well acted but very unsettling in certain places. Also, the historical accuracy is very dubious, making Queen Anne look more like a petulant child in need of a babysitter rather than the capable leader she actually was.

VERY GOOD 2018 period black comedy film directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, and written by Deborah Davis and Tony McNamara.
A bit different (centers on female characters) look at early 18th Century England and the regal consequences of its conflict with France, etc.
Excellent production, acting and more - glad I gave it a watch. Does have a surprising amount of sexual name calling/use of body slang words dont' know if they were actually used way back then.

Very different from what I expected . A dark comedy , and a lot of sexual encounters / innuendos and swearing . Back stabbing politics ( hmm--just like present day lol )
One has to feel sorry for Queen Anne even so as her life is so sad and her health and how she is manipulated . And yes , she's quite off balance too . The costumes and background scenery / sets were awesome and one could watch for that reason alone . The music is also very different , almost bizarre in some scenes . Oh and then there's the dance scenes . Now those are quite unique , interesting and comical .
So yes would recommend this movie , just be prepared to have your jaw hit the floor a few times .

Worth seeing for the interiors alone. Jarring visual style and a soundtrack to match, with period music juxtaposed with anachronistic Schumann and Messiaen. Fine performances.

Why? If you are a hard core Elizabethean Era fan then you might enjoy this unique story based in that time period. For me, I fast-forwarded to skim the story to understand why it won awards - only found that it's a unique story.

40 good quotes in IMDb. The writing is edgy and quirky as this one:

Abigail: Have you come to seduce me, or rape me?
Masham: I am a gentleman.
Abigail: So, rape then.
