This award-winning novel features 14-year-old Ricky. After her parent's divorce Ricky is sent back to junior high for the school year. For Ricky the only thing worse than another year of junior high is her recent juvenile arthritis diagnosis. Ricky is determined that no one at her new school finds out about it even as living with this chronic disease takes a huge toll on her. Ricky is a sharply drawn character that won't be soon forgotten by readers that enjoy realistic fiction.

An engaging #Ownvoices book for teens about a young girl who suffers from chronic pain. I like to think that anyone who reads this book will get an insight into people who suffer from illnesses that you can not see and take that into consideration when they see someone that differs from themselves.

I was looking for fiction books dealing with rheumatoid arthritis and this is one of the few I found. Although I am a middle age adult rather than the YA audience it was intended for, I enjoyed this book very much. Told through the eyes of the main character, I could really relate to her struggles.
