The theme seems interesting, but the low budget makes the whole setting ridiculously earth-like.
Furthermore, most of the actors appear amateurish, and I cannot stand it any longer when I see the dildo-induced orgasm. Cheep and silly!

A poetic premise rendered crass and repugnant, for as much as Denis claims the film is about “tenderness, trust, fidelity, and sincerity” in outer space it can’t dispel the salacious focus on masturbation, sexual assault (both male and female), and bodily fluids in general, nor can the pretty astronomical backdrops (at one point the stars coalesce to form a womb according to the director) impart any existential depth to her warped aesthetic. “It’s about sexuality…sensuality…” she croons yet the grimy attempts at erotica prove tastelessly voyeuristic especially one messy and overly long session in the ship’s “sex closet”, a concept so reminiscent of the “Orgasmatron” in Woody Allen’s "Sleeper" that I had to laugh. An homage to Tarkovsky’s "Solaris"? Hardly, although it does rip off Kubrick’s "2001". A cosmic rumination on loneliness, humanity, and atonement? (a tragic transgression from Monte’s past is given weighty reality when a blip appears on his radar screen). Not really. Neither life-affirming, sex-positive, nor psychologically believable, and the “science” is suspect at best—all of which lead to the conclusion that some things are better off lost in space.

Not surprised at the binary reviews, either poor or very good. I am in the thumbs down camp, not so much because of the horrors and violence on screen but the long and mundane beginning scenes, about 12 minutes. It is a film that would benefit viewers if there were an opening narrative or crawl to help the audience to understand the cryptic madness they were about to see.

I was curious to see how Pattinson was on screen when not being a sparkle-pire pretty soy-boy -- also this film was supposed to have something, or so I heard. I gave this film a chance -- I really did -- but I shut it off around the 40min mark (it's about 1h50mins long) -- it was just too slow, it got too weird, and I just didn't care. I can do some weird in my sci-fi but not when the film doesn't seem to be going anywhere and doesn't show me anything I haven't already seen in the genre. I'm all the more glad I was doing some work while watching this on the side. If you're looking to be bored and need some motivation to jab your eyes out, this is the film for you!
(But if you need some good sci-fi ... there are A LOT of better titles available.)

Space shuttle suicide mission film with a Crazy scientist/doctor experimenting on the crew/inmates. The movie shows "current" time with flashbacks detailing what happened prior. It is worth the watch if you like survival movies, sci-fi movies, and/or space movies.

Offensive, stupid movie.

Two words. Excruciatingly tedious.
... punctuated with moments of elevated boredom.

I like a good sci-fi and I like great drama.
This movie achieves neither.
I would not qualify it as an art film either, there's little in it to provoke much thought in its current form. The premise has some potential but the writing isn't enough to fill a 10 minute video essay. This monstrosity shouldn't have escaped the editing booth.

Give it a pass unless you're in 'segregated confinement' with a lot of time to waste.

Well worth watching.

One of Robert Pattinson's best films he's ever done it was a real space adventure to be remembered.

Too bad. I like Sci-Fi movies for the most part, even kind of bad ones (think John Carter and Pitch Black) but this movie was in my opinion worth a one word review: STINKERS!
I didn't like anything about it, even the spaceship and not one character was compelling.

Don't drink your own piss, Willow. And don't eat your own shit. Even if it's recycled... even if it doesn't look like piss or shit anymore. It's called a taboo.
Radical experiments are taking place in outer space. Death row inmates are selected to be used as guinea pigs. Is this really how Occidental governmental authorities hope to deal with criminals?
We were scum. Trash. Refuse that didn't fit into the system until someone had the bright ideaof recycling us. Some of us got life sentences, some of us were on death row. The agency made us an offer, to serve science. Given our ages, how could we say no?
At that point, we'd only left the solar system for three years. Almost all of us were still alive. Constant acceleration creates artificial gravity, freeing us from the discomfort of weightlessness. The body handles it better.

I know I look like a witch. I mean, you all call me Vultura, right?
-'Cause you're foxy and you know it. I just don't understand how you can still believe in your Class-2 mission. It's like you've become a shaman of sperm. It's just a new religion for you.
Because I'm totally devoted to reproduction, happy monk. Going to sow your fields?
This monk thing you got goin' on, it's cool, huh? It's so vain.
-You bet I'm vain. I like it here. This reminds me of juvie. Reminds me of jail. It's the same thing as the army.
I get why you choose abstinence. Masturbating, you can... You can do that to death. But this fuck box? Jesus. That's a whole 'nother rabbit hole.
At 99% of the speed of light, the entire sky converged before our eyes. This sensation, moving backwards even though we're moving forwards, getting farther from what's getting nearer, sometimes I just can't stand it.

We were at the halfway point. Four more years to our destination. We had to begin the deceleration maneuver so the ship could approach a black hole, one of the closest in our galaxy. A small one. This is the main goal of our mission. Our Class-1 suicide ride to check if we could capture a black hole's rotating energy. And we, heroes, would provide humanity with almost boundless resources. Their Penrose process.
It'll die in there. It's cruelty!
-What do you know about cruelty?
What're you doin'?
You know a god to pray to? What god are you praying to?
-I saw it in some of the random images from Earth. I just wanted to know what they feel.

Looks like a crocodile's eye.
-More like a mouth that wants to swallow us up.
You might've been thugs and criminals, but you're heroes to me.
