Since I am a fan of Frederik Backman’s writing and loved this book, I was really looking forward to the movie. Although I enjoyed it, I was a little disappointed. It doesn’t have the depth and the character development that the book has. Brit-Marie’s quirkiness comes through, but you don’t get the whole story, mainly with the townspeople in Borg, where she becomes the soccer coach. The film makes it seem like she’s only in Borg, coaching the soccer team for a few days. The book makes it obvious that she’s there longer, so her connection to the children and other people there makes more sense. It’s still worth watching, but I was just hoping for more.

Excellent film, based on the book by the same name! The depth within the book, which was written in Swedish and translated to English, was nearly matched in the film. One thing I especially enjoy about foreign films such as this, is that the characters are typically cast very true to the character roles in the book, unlike American films which usually try to glam things up with the "prettiest", "thinnest", "most handsome" actors.

In Swedish with English subtitles. There isn’t an option for English sound.

This is another example of the book is better than the movie. Though Britt-Marie's awkward social interactions and lack of conversational tact are missing from the movie, it still is very much worth the watch. The focus on the kids and soccer is still at the heart of the story as Britt-Marie's inner struggles regarding her husband force her to reassess her life. I missed the grittier side of the story involving Sami, Vega, and Omar, but taking it out definitely turned the movie into a lighter tale which might be more appealing to some.

Nice movie but I personally did not consider it to be a comedy. It had some funny moments, yes, but was just a nice movie with a nice story. Not great but not a waste of time either. Be prepared to read the subtitles of course.

Likable, if rather lightweight Swedish language comedy.
Pernilla August is excellent as Brit-Marie, but it's hard not to picture an English-language remake with either La Streep or Julie Walters.
Pleasant, but unmemorable.

Cute, heartwarming, heartbreaking, funny, pensive...all rolled into one interesting film.

A simple, heartwarming comedy with poignant overtones. Lightweight, but very cute and enjoyable.
